A tribute to American composer John Corigliano closes the Montreal High
Lights Festival on March 4 at Molson Centre. Pianist Alain Lefèvre
performs the Corigliano Piano Concerto in the first half and a multimedia
homage to The Red Violin (scored by Corigliano) concludes the program.
Violinist Joshua Bell reprises the violin solo. Charles Dutoit conducts the MSO.

Student opera productions are hot tickets these days. McGill's annual
student workshop, the Black Box Theatre, will present scenes from compositions

The final guillotine scene of Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites is one
of the most poignant moments in opera. L'Opéra de Montréal will put on the

Soprano Karina Gauvin has been wanting to sing Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn
since her first year at the Conservatory. "Like Bach, Mahler reaches right
in and pulls something out of me," said Gauvin. The Orchestre Métropolitain
under Joseph Rescigno presents Mahler's Symphony # 4 and five Wunderhorn

Tenor Placido Domingo will be making his only Canadian appearance in 2000 in

Roy Thomson Hall recently announced their 2000/2001 lineup. Their International
Vocal Recitals series features Cecilia Bartoli, David Daniels, Renée Fleming
and Canadian soprano Adrianne Pieczonka. The Virtuoso Performances series
presents Richard Margison, Les Arts Florissants conducted by William Christie,
and Matthias Goerne with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, whose recent tour in
