Subscription Updates The
Montreal Symphony Orchestra's 1997-98 Subscription season
contains several new ideas. Their Sponsor a Subscriber program
rewards current subscribers: get one new subscriber and receive two
tickets. The MSO is also venturing into new territory by offering
weekend concerts twice: once on December 5 and 6, and the other on
March 13 and 14. These two are part of a special four concert Brahms
series of his symphonies and his German Requiem. The celebration of
Mahler and his symphonies will continue in a three concert
subscription series devoted to the 5th, 6th and 7th symphonies.
Strangely, the performance of the Adagio from his 10th symphony is
not included in this series. Remaining on the topic of repertoire,
the MSO will be featuring several concerts devoted to Spanish
music. The OSM projects a 15% increase in attendance this season
over last year attributed to lowered ticket prices. Ticket prices
for the next season will remain the same. Their $10 'day of concert'
rush tickets for full time students will continue, as well as their
normal $10 rush tickets for the first 100 tickets available starting
at 6:30 p.m. The good news for L'Opera de Montréal's
1997-98 season is that subscription ticket prices have not changed.
Subscribers also benefit from a new program of ticket replacement
from one opera to another. Furthermore, their Opera 18-35 program
will likely be continued again next year. The bad news is that
single ticket prices have gone up slightly. Many regular opera goers have noticed that the
L'OdM has dropped their last hour 50% rush ticket policy for
students and seniors. The 18-35 program takes care of most students,
but seniors are out of luck.
