In a recent interview with Getmusic.com, American mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade revealed that after 30 years at the Metropolitan Opera, she has decided to retire from the company. Her last appearance on the Met stage was in January at the Met Gala celebrating Placido Domingo's 60th birthday. Von Stade's last role at the Met was in this season's The Merry Widow. The Metropolitan Opera is planning to reschedule the filming of the current production of Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos some time in the future, revealed soprano Deborah Voigt in a 56 minute Live Online Video Chat at Getmusic.com on April 16. The opera was to have been filmed this month for telecast on PBS next season, but was cancelled after soprano Natalie Dessay withdrew from the production after doctors ordered vocal rest.
