What better way to celebrate the warm weather than with a special issue of La Scena Musicale devoted to jazz. Just in time for the wealth of jazz festivals popping up this summer across the country, LSM is proud to offer you full coverage on the latest artists and events, including our writers’ festival picks and record reviews. Our cover features two of Canada’s top saxophonists, Toronto’s Richard Underhill and Montreal’s André Leroux, both of whom will be traveling the festival circuit this summer.
In the spirit of our annual jazz edition, subscribers will receive a complimentary Discovery CD of recordings carefully selected by Jazz Editor Marc Chénard of legendary Canadian jazz pianist Oscar Peterson in concert in Paris. Subscribe now: an ideal Mother’s Day Gift! Incidentally, last month we launched our new online Flash edition of the magazine. Subscribers now have exclusive access to a music-enriched version plus other online advantages, including receiving the concert calendar by email.
For the 14th straight year, La Scena Musicale will celebrate the summer season in music. This month, we feature our annual focus on over 130 Canadian jazz, world and folk music festivals. Next month, our June national issue will be dedicated to over 200 Canadian classical music and arts festivals.
We also celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Montreal Chamber Music Festival by profiling one of their headliners, violinist Rachel Barton Pine, and the premiere of part of a recently discovered Samuel Barber sonata. We look at two new productions: the Ensemble contemporain de Montréal’s Les Aventures de Madame Merveille and Opéra de Montréal’s Cendrillon by Massenet. We also feature interviews with composer Stephen Moccio and pianist Janina Fialkowska. And of course, don’t forget our monthly world music section, concert calendar and CD reviews.
Our 2010 Endowment Fund campaign continues. We need your help. In order to reach our goal of raising $100,000 by November 30, 2010, we ask you to join our fundraising committee or make a donation. Thanks to those who have already given. To date, we have already raised $15,000. Please play a part in keeping music alive.
