One of the newest and hottest celebrities
in Montreal’s music scene is undoubtedly the Montreal Symphony Orchestra’s
new artistic director Kent Nagano, who officially took the helm last
September. Fans and critics alike are fascinated by the multi-faceted
man. La Scena Musicale has been keeping track of Nagano these
past two years and in our in-depth interview, we give you some insight
into what makes the maestro tick. It’s a “must” read in this issue!
In addition, we recognize the 40th anniversary
of the SMCQ, the first Canadian institution dedicated to advancing the
cause of contemporary music.
December is also the time for holiday
festivities with family and friends. So much to do, so little time!
Check out our recording reviews and gift section to get ideas for that
music student and music lover in your life. You might also consider
giving the gift that keeps giving all year round by treating a loved
one with a La Scena Musicale
subscription and / or a limited edition 10th Anniversary Coffee Cup
(see pages 6 and 7). When you need a break from your busy schedule,
pamper yourself with some live music by consulting our regional calendar
for the season’s concert listings.
On behalf of the hard-working team of
staff and volunteers at La Scena Musicale, I wish you and yours
much peace and joy during the holidays, and an amazing 2007 filled with
music, music and more music!
