Symphony Nova Scotia presents ’ÄúThe Last Night of the Proms’Ķ Ever!’Äù
Halifax, NS ’Äì Pianist, conductor and stand-up comedian Rainer Hersch joins Symphony Nova Scotia on Friday, January 23 at 7:30 pm at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium to play on your musical funny bone. The star of BBC’Äôs Classical Music Unexplained takes on that jewel of the British concert season, The Last Night of the Proms.
"I have had the pleasure of visiting Canada many times over the last fifteen years,’Äù says Hersch. ’ÄúIf there is one thing I know about Canadians it's that they have a love-hate relationship with the Brits and, in particular, the Royal Family.
’ÄúWhile it's definitely not just about the royals, my show with Symphony Nova Scotia is about that feeling. Yes, it will be all the fun of ’ÄòLand of Hope and Glory’Äô and ’ÄòRule Britannia,’Äô but not without us having a good laugh at the ridiculous, overblown self-importance of it all.’Äù
Hersch is excited to be back in Canada, especially on the East Coast. ’ÄúAs it happens, after all these years this will be my first visit to Halifax, which I am massively looking forward to. I have already set my watch seven and a half minutes ahead... or whatever it is."
If you’Äôre a music lover with a sense of humour, don’Äôt miss this high-spirited, patriotic and downright cheeky take on everything musical and British from the man widely cited as Victor Borge’Äôs comic heir.
