The Proms, a British musical tradition for more than a century, is one of the most popular classical music concerts in the world, watched and listened to by an audience of many millions around the globe. "Last Night" encapsulates the spirit of the Proms in one party-filled night.

LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS 2008 brings together the different themes of the season under the helm of Sir Roger Norrington who makes his first "Last Night" appearance, leading an all-star dazzling final concert. As usual, the line-up is an eclectic mix of new pieces and the old classics, including the world premieres of the BBC commissions from Chris Hazzell and Anna Meredith. The world's most famous feast of classical music features Beethoven's The Creatures of Prometheus and Fantasia in C minor, star turns from Puccini's Tosca and Verdi's Falstaff, orchestral movements from Wagner's Tannhäuser, Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No.1and Vaughan Williams' Sea Songs. The programme also celebrates traditional folk music from Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. Many Historic Video and Audio Performances Available for the First Time Since Their Original Broadcast

New York, NY (April 28, 2008) – The Metropolitan Opera will offer a free weekend of unlimited access to Met Player, the subscription service that makes much of the company’s extensive video and audio catalog of full-length performances available to the public online, in exceptional, state-of-the-art quality. The free preview begins at 5pm ET on Friday, May 1, and runs through midnight on Sunday, May 3. During this time, users logging into Met Player will have access to the entire collection of more than 200 audio and video performances, including 20 of the company’s acclaimed HD productions from the first three seasons of The Met: Live in HD series. HD titles recently added to the Met Player catalog include this season’s transmissions of Massenet’s Thaïs starring Renée Fleming and Thomas Hampson, Puccini’s La Rondine featuring Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna, and Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor with Anna Netrebko and Piotr Beczala. Met Player also features the wide range of Music Director James Levine’s work, from Mozart’s comic masterpiece Cosi fan Tutte to Wagner’s epic Ring cycle.

Recent upgrades to Met Player include the addition of multi-language subtitles (French, German, and Spanish) to the current season’s HD titles; English subtitles are available for all videos (but can be turned off if preferred).

Met Player offers a wealth of video performances to choose from, including Puccini’s La Bohème with Renata Scotto and Luciano Pavarotti (1977), Plácido Domingo in Verdi’s Otello (1995), and Verdi’s La Forza del Destino with Leontyne Price (1984), as well as the recent HD live shows from the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons, including Natalie Dessay and Juan Diego Flórez in Donizetti’s La Fille du Regiment. Some of the initial offerings have never been seen since their original television broadcasts: Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci with Tatiana Troyanos, Teresa Stratas, and Domingo (1978); Price’s legendary farewell performance in Verdi’s Aida (1985); and Tschaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades with Galina Gorchakova and Domingo (1999).

The legendary audio performances include Bizet’s Carmen starring Rosa Ponselle (1937), as well as other Met radio performances from such celebrated artists as Carlo Bergonzi, Jussi Bjoerling, Maria Callas, Franco Corelli, Mario del Monaco, Lauritz Melchior, Zinka Milanov, Birgit Nilsson, Joan Sutherland, Renata Tebaldi, and Richard Tucker.

In order to register for the free weekend of Met Player, users must have an active username and password for the Met website. New users can set this up by visiting the “Register” page at metopera.org and providing basic contact information. No credit card will be required. Additional information will be available on the Met website during this free period to assist customers.

Subscription fees are priced at $14.99 per month or $149.99 for a yearly plan. As a special benefit for Met members who contribute at the $125 level or above, a six-month introductory package is available for $49.99. Individual purchases will cost $4.99 for HD videos and $3.99 for an audio performance or non-HD video; these individual purchases may be played in a six-hour period within 30 days. Met Player will provide a free downloadable audio and video website player with any rental or subscription order. A one week free trial subscription will be available to anyone after registration.

The Met is the first performing arts organization in the world to present such a wide variety of performances in such high quality resolution, available whenever its users wish to see or hear them. The Met developed the new service over the past year, working with a consortium of new technology companies –Move Networks, mPoint, PermissionTV, and POP – adapting recently developed technologies to ensure superior picture and sound quality for the Met’s long-form programming.

Montréal, 3 avril 2008 - Les productions de La Scala de Milan sont enfin offertes au public québécois qui aura la possibilité de découvrir la magie de ce haut-lieu de la culture musicale mondiale dans une série de présentations en Haute Définition dans quatre salles de cinéma du Québec.

Pour débuter la saison, les cinéphiles pourront voir la production de LA TRAVIATA de Giuseppe Verdi. Les critiques ont vanté les performances et la « maitrise du rôle » d'Angela Gheorghiu interprétant le rôle de Violetta, entourée d'une distribution de renommée internationale incluant Ramón Vargas et Roberto Frontali. L'orchestre était dirigé par Lorin Maazel et la réalisation de LA TRAVIATA était confiée à Liliana Cavani, la conception à Dante Ferretti et les chorégraphies à Micha van Hoecke.

Les cinémas Carrefour de Joliette, Triomphe de Lachenaie, Beaubien de Montréal et Pine de Sainte-Adèle sont fiers de présenter en Haute Définition et en son Dolby 5.1 LA TRAVIATA dimanche 20 avril à 13h00 et en reprise mercredi 30 avril à 13h00. Le prix d'admission sera de 19,95 $ pour l'admission générale et 15,95 $ pour les étudiants (moins de 17 ans).

Six autres productions seront ensuite présentées en provenance de La Scala de Milan, du Maggio Musicale de Florence et du Teatro la Fenice de Venise. Il s'agit de AIDA (Giuseppe Verdi), réalisé par Franco Zeffirelli et dirigé par Riccardo Chailly; MARIA STUARDA (Gaetano Donizetti) réalisé par Pier Luigi Pizzi; TRISTAN UND ISOLDE (Richard Wagner) dirigé par Daniel Barenboim et realisé par Patrice Chéreau; IL TRITTICO (Giacomo Puccini) réalisé par Luca Ronconi avec en vedette Juan Pons et Leo Nucci; LA FORZA DEL DESTINO (Giuseppe Verdi) dirigé par Zubin Mehta, réalisé par Nicolas Joel, avec en vedette Marcello Giordani; et enfin LA RONDINE (Giacomo Puccini), dirigé par Carlo Rizzi et réalisé par Graham Vick.

La présentation aux États-Unis, au Royaume Uni, au Brésil et en Norvège et maintenant au Québec de ces œuvres sur grand écran par des serveurs numériques est rendue possible grâce à la collaboration d'Emerging Pictures.

Une des places musicales les plus prestigieuses au monde, La Scala de Milan fut construite en 1778 après la destruction par le feu de l'ancien Théâtre ducal. Marie-Thérèse d'Autriche le fit ériger là où s'élevait jadis l'église Santa Maria della Scala, qui donna son nom au nouvel opéra. Entièrement détruite durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, la Scala fut immédiatement reconstruite, et le 11 mai 1946, Arturo Toscanini dirigeait le concert de réouverture. De 2002 à 2004, la Scala ferme ses portes pour une rénovation totale de la cage de scène et l'adjonction d'un nouvel édifice qui est une vraie prouesse architecturale. Stéphane Lissner est le surintendant et directeur artistique de la Scala depuis la saison 2005/2006. Il a succédé à Riccardo Muti, qui avait assuré la direction musicale de l'Opéra de Milan pendant près de vingt ans.

Montréal, QC (CGX.UN) – le 19 décembre 2007 – À la suite du succès remporté par la première diffusion de la saison du « Metropolitan Opera : en direct et en haute définition » samedi dernier avec Roméo et Juliette de Gounod, Cineplex Divertissement a décidé d'ajouter un écran à la liste des cinémas qui présenteront les sept prochains opéras en direct. En effet, à compter du 1^er janvier 2008 à 13 h, le cinéma Cineplex Odeon Quartier Latin s'ajoutera à la liste des dix cinémas Cineplex Divertissement au Québec qui présenteront les prestations du Met Opera en direct de New York. Les amateurs d'opéra et de musique auront la chance d'assister à la présentation de Hansel et Gretel de Humperdinck, un spectacle pour toute la famille, diffusé en haute définition et en ambiophonie Dolby Digital.

« À la suite du succès retentissant de la diffusion du premier opéra de la saison le week-end dernier, qui a été présenté à guichets fermés dans plusieurs cinémas, et pour répondre à la demande importante de notre clientèle au centre-ville de Montréal, nous avons décidé d'ajouter le cinéma Cineplex Odeon Quartier Latin à la liste des cinémas qui présenteront la saison 2007-2008 du "Met Opera : en direct et en haute définition", » indique Pat Marshall, Vice-présidente, communications et relations avec les investisseurs chez Cineplex Divertissement.

Les billets sont en vente à compter d'aujourd'hui en ligne sur www.cineplex.com et à la billetterie du cinéma Cineplex Odeon Quartier Latin. Le prix d'entrée est de 16,95 $ (taxes en sus) pour les enfants de 3 à 12 ans et pour les personnes âgées et de 19,95 $ (taxes en sus) pour les adultes.

Les gens qui souhaitent s'abonner aux huit représentations peuvent toujours le faire à la billetterie des cinémas participants. Le prix de l'abonnement annuel est de 134,95 $ (taxes en sus).
