Geordie Productions’ winter highlights: Once Upon a Home and Thrice upon a time…

Written by Amanda Kellock, from the writings of students at: FACE, St-Gabriel’s, Willingdon, Coronation and Karonhiahonha schools. Directed by Amanda Kellock. Designed by: Ana Cappelluto and Troy Slocum. Featuring: Jimmy Blais, Vanessa Schmit-Craan and Antoine Yared.

What does "Home" mean to you? Last year, Geordie posed this question to elementary-school students from 5 different schools in and around Montreal, as part of a collaborative creation process called “From You to Us to You”. With their stories, words, and drawings, the Geordie team created a fresh new play to bring back To You. Through songs, stories and a lot of make-believe, discover some of the many diverse ideas children have of Home.

Since September 2009, Once Upon a Home has traveled all across Quebec as part of Geordie’s School Tour. Don’t miss this opportunity to catch a public performance here in Montreal!

Montreal’s award-winning Theatre of Acrobatic Movement returns from its international tour to perform on Geordie’s Mainstage! While stranded on a mysterious island, a young boy encounters an outlandish creature who sends him on a mission to defeat an evil witch. This modern-day fairytale draws on familiar and foreign legends - from Grimm's fairytale "Hansel and Gretel" to William Golding's "Lord of the Flies" to traditional Chinese opera stage combat - while seamlessly blending heart-stopping acrobatics with a live musical soundscape.

It's Christmas Eve on a dark Victorian night and the wealthy miser Mr. Scrooge is haunted by a series of ghosts who show him the inevitable consequences of his selfish ways, if he doesn't change. As the bell in the clock-tower rings, Scrooge is taken on an unforgettable journey into his past, present and future that will help him discover the true spirit of the holidays and open his heart to love.

Geordie Productions presents a holiday treat for the whole family

November 12, 2009 (MONTREAL) – Geordie Productions is proud to bring Montrealers a new theatrical adaptation of the classic holiday favourite, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Adapted by Alexandria Haber, and in co-production with Concordia University's Department of Theatre, this sophisticated production – and largest of the company's history - will be presented on Geordie's Mainstage at the D.B. Clarke Theatre from December 4th to 18th.

In keeping with the season's theme, "Theatre for all audiences", A Christmas Carol will welcome audiences of all ages, with or without accompanying children (minimum recommended age is 7 years). Explains Artistic Director, Dean Patrick Fleming: "Great stories of the past, present and future have one thing in common: they are inclusive of everyone. Should great theatre not be the same?"

Under the direction of Dean Patrick Fleming, Geordie's team of prominent and award-winning actors and designers interpret Charles Dickens' timeless story with the spectacular creativity you've come to expect with acclaimed past productions such as The Little Prince, Alice Through the Looking Glass and The Jungle Book.

The elegance of the Victorian era is captured with a sophisticated set & lighting design by Ana Cappelluto, period costumes by James Lavoie, sound design by Jesse Ash and choreography by Robin Hendersen.

David Francis, fresh from his role in Inherit the Wind (Segal Centre) plays Scrooge, with an ensemble cast consisting of Leni Parker (Inherit the Wind, Segal Centre), Michel Perron (In Piazza San Domenico, Centaur Theatre), Owen Clark, Callahan Conner, Shannon Hamilton, Imogen Haworth, Christopher Hicks, Bryan Libero, Charlotte Rogers, Nicholas Santillo, and Emily Skahan.

Geordie Productions seeks children to play the role of Tiny Tim in upcoming production of A Christmas Carol

November 2, 2009 (MONTREAL) - Geordie Productions has launched its search for children to play the role of Tiny Tim in its upcoming Mainstage production of A Christmas Carol, premiering at the D.B. Clarke Theatre from December 4th - December 18th, 2009.

This unique, non-remunerated opportunity to appear on-stage in a professional production is open to children age 7 - 11 of all race and gender. No acting experience necessary! There are no prior rehearsals for the selected participants, but they will be required to arrive one hour prior to their performance time and will be guided throughout duration of the performance by members of the company.

This large-scale adaptation of Charles Dickens' timeless holiday classic is presented by Geordie in its Montreal Mainstage Series that has included such acclaimed productions as: The Little Prince, The Jungle Book and Alice Through the Looking Glass. Adapted by Alexandria Haber, directed by Dean Patrick Fleming and with 12 adult actors and a team of award-winning designers and choreographer, Geordie's A Christmas Carol is set be THE holiday event for all ages.

To apply to be Tiny Tim, Bob Crachit's frail but generous and loving son who helps Scrooge learn the true meaning of the holidays, applicants are asked to submit:
· a recent head-to-toe photo
· a short letter telling us what's the best gift you've ever received or given someone and why?

Complete application forms and details are available from Geordie's website: www.geordie.ca. Up to 26 applicants will be selected based on creativity and enthusiasm of their responses, as well as applicant's physical size and availability. Geordie Productions is committed to equality.
