Salov Concert a Manitoba Debut

WINNIPEG¬‚ ’Äî Pianist, Serhiy Salov makes his Manitoba debut this Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Eckhardt-Grammattˆ© Hall, kicking off the second half of Virtuosi Concerts 2009-2010 season.

Salov made his first solo debut at the age of eleven with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. He studied first at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, Germany and completed postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Currently, he resides in Montreal and is pursuing a doctorate at L’ÄôUniversitˆ© de Montrˆ©al. Salov has been a winner at numerous international competitions, including the Concours Musical de France in Paris in 1998, the Long-Thibaud International Piano Competition in 2001 and the Montreal International Piano Competition in 2004 to name just a few.

His recitals usually include the works of Ukrainian composers as well as personal favorites and this concert is no exception. ’ÄùAll but the smaller pieces in this recital have been with me for my entire life and are my close friends, Salov says. ’ÄúThe newcomer is the Rite of Spring. I have arranged orchestral works for piano, but this is my most ambitious project. As Salov is considered an ’ÄúAmbassador of Ukrainian culture to Canada’Äù Virtuosi Concerts is pleased to acknowledge the Honorary Patronage of the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada for this performance.
