Mixed Company Theatre has a Playwright in the House!

Toronto, July 6, 2009 ’Äì Mixed Company Theatre is thrilled to announce that Heather Marie Annis will be the ’ÄúPlaywright in the House’Äù for six weeks. Generous funding from the Ontario Arts Council allows for a Playwright in Residence.

Annis will be working on two new pieces, one focused on sexual harassment and the other on street violence.

Annis has worked with Mixed Company Theatre on the creation of two plays about sexual harassment and assault, Under the Table and Bells and Whistles. Annis has also acted with the company extensively, in anti-bullying presentations, Showdown and The Bully Show: Clown in the Round.

In keeping with Mixed Company Theatre's mandate to create drama as a tool for positive social change, the company nurtures and develops artists within the community. Playwrights learn from Mixed Company's experienced artistic team how to take feedback from the community and incorporate it into the final creation of a Forum Theatre play.
