The immediacy and arresting beauty of this singular universe is remarkably alive in the work of Francisco Snchez. An artist with an illustrious trajectory in Brazil, Rome, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba, he chose to wait for the right moment to schedule his first US solo exhibit. "I had to hear my inner voice and my community of artist friends: my brethren. Ive always believed that the arts bring people together in truly unexpected ways." Mr. Snchez arrives in the States with an extraordinary new visual language and an array of stunning oeuvre. Discussions for "A Journey of Reverie" started over a year ago with the shows curator, Justo J. Snchez, and the gallerys president and director Raul Cremata. The artist has, upon re-reading Alejo Carpentiers El reino de este mundo and inspired by Resnais Last Year at Marienbad, produced a series of canvases and painted chalkboards of serene and rare beauty. "Originally conceived as an ecological ode," according to the curator, "the show now establishes a dialogue with classical antiquity and how nature and magic erupt into the man-made. Deeply grounded in the telluric, Francisco collapses the oneiric and the spiritual." The artist is an Honors MFA laureate from Moscows famous Surikov Institute after graduating from Havanas San Alejandro Academy and the Instituto Superior de Arte.
