Juno-Nominated Jeremy Fisher Announces New 2009 Tour
JUNO-NOMINATED JEREMY FISHER ANNOUNCES NEW 2009 TOUR
Toronto, ON ’Äì Best known for promoting his first album on a bike - peddling across the country, Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Jeremy Fisher is set to take his debut album Back Porch Spirituals back on the road! The cross-Canada tour, which kicks off in Victoria on January 24, will have Fisher joined by opening act Hannah Georgas (www.myspace.com/bandhannah).
"This tour is going to be an interesting change for me. I'm excited for the focus of my performances to be on the songs that helped get my start in this industry. I feel like I'm able to get back to my roots as a musician and I really can't wait to perform live and be on the road again!" says Fisher.
Back Porch Spirituals brings Fisher's folk influences to the forefront, filled with bluesy harmonica and gentle guitar melodies. The album is a slight departure for his newer fans familiar with a recent more upbeat and playful tone, especially showcased on his hit single Cigarette (from his third album Goodbye Blue Monday).
In contrast, Back Porch Spirituals is stripped down, reminiscent of traditional folk and country music staples. The more melancholy Safe and Sound is one of several tracks to feature guest vocals by Laura Veirs, who adds a feminine layer of harmonic vocals. Marengo, Saskatchewan is a heartening patriotic ballad, layered with rustic harmonica melodies. Back Porch Spirituals (re-released nationwide in stores and on iTunes earlier this year) is a staple for any fan of Fisher, past and present.
Fisher was nominated for 2 Juno's this past year for Goodbye Blue Monday, in both the New Artist Of The Year and Adult Alternative Album Of The Year categories.
