Celebridˆ©e announces complete line-up ’Äì Tickets now on sale

¬‚Ottawa, April 4, 2008 ’Äì Celebridˆ©e is delighted to announce the complete line-up for its 2008 festival. Celebridˆ©e is a 19-day celebration of ideas which runs from May 2nd to May 19th, 2008 as part of the Canadian Tulip Festival and will feature a tremendous line-up of great thinkers, writers, scientists, political figures and artists from all around the world.

Headlining Celebridˆ©e will be Sir Salman Rushdie, one of the world's most celebrated and controversial novelists, in his first-ever public appearance in Ottawa. Also in their first-ever Ottawa appearances are Wired Magazine's Chris Anderson, and Jared Diamond Pulitzer Prize winning author of Guns, Germs and Steel.

Other highlights of Celebridˆ©e include improv comedians Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood; the newest member the Royal Canadian Air Farce, Ottawa comedian Jessica Holmes; Dr. Dan Baker, author of What Happy People Know; McGill University Professor Daniel J. Levitin, author of This is Your Brain on Music; and James Howard Kunstler, author of The Long Emergency. Yale University's Amy Chua will present World on Fire; the Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada will moderate a session on Penal Reform, the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics will present The Mystery of Dark Matter, and Richard Florida, author of Who's Your City, will discuss Creative Cities.

Most events will take place in the Tulip Festival Mirror Tent, an exceptionally high-end "Spiegeltent" being shipped over from Belgium especially for Celebridˆ©e and the Canadian Tulip Festival. People will be able to dine in the Mirror Tent before all events, mingle before and after the presentations and enjoy refreshments, including wine and beer, during the presentation. Organizers are expecting the Tulip Festival Mirror Tent ’Äì also the home of this year's Tulip Ball and five nights of Cabaret ’Äì to be one of the great attractions of this year's Festival.

Celebridˆ©e will also feature three superb musical concerts including two evenings with Angela Hewitt performing Bach's complete Well-Tempered Clavier and Janina Fialkowska & The Chamber Players of Canada, all at St. Andrew's Church.

The Treaty of Paris

The year 2008 marks the 225th anniversary of Treaty of Paris that ended the American Revolution. However, the legacy of this treaty has been much greater than merely ending the war: it reshaped North America, creating new political relationships and this basis for the Canada we know today. This event is the official opening of the exhibition at Library and Archives Canada, where the actual treaty will be on display.

Major's Hill Park will also host a new spectacular addition to the Festival in 2008 ’Äì the Tulip Festival Mirror Tent. Coming from Belgium, the Tulip Festival Mirror Tent recreates the renowned European art nouveau days with lavish interiors of carved wood, polished mirrors, crystal, leadlight and luxuriant furnishings. The Tulip Festival Mirror Tent will host the 2008 Celebridˆ©e ’Äì Celebration of Ideas program, as well as four food and music Cabaret Nights and will be the home of the 2008 Tulip Ball Reflections! on Saturday, May 10.
