[Montreal] Figaro here, Figaro there: A Barber at the Opera! - Sports-celebrity Barber Mˆ©nick at the Opˆ©ra de Montrˆ©al!
MONTREAL, Jan. 9 /CNW Telbec/ - Hear ye, hear ye... the Opˆ©ra de Montrˆ©al has invited Montreal's most renowned barber to bring his razor and strop to the "Hall des Pas Perdus" at Place des Arts on Tuesday, January 15, 2008. From noon to 6 p.m., Mˆ©nick, famous barber to Montreal celebrities and sports figures - and an opera fan - will be offering free shaves as Rossini's music plays in the background! All comers are welcome to experience his skill with a straight razor. Participants and the general public will have a chance to win tickets to Rossini's The Barber of Seville. Hear ye, hear ye...!
As an added treat, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., three soloists from the production - Aaron St. Clair Nicholson (Figaro), Julie Boulianne (Rosina), and Stephen Morscheck (Bartolo) - will perform excerpts from Rossini's masterpiece The Barber of Seville, presented by the Opˆ©ra de Montrˆ©al beginning February 2, 2008.
Mˆ©nick
From Maurice Richard to Sidney Crosby, from "Mad Dog" Vachon to Chuck Norris, Mˆ©nick has shaved them all! The clientele at his Masson Street shop - where he has been doing the honours for over 45 years - still includes many other well-known figures.
"I'm 63 years old, and I'm here every day at 7 or 7:30 in the morning. And yet, the shop only opens at 9 a.m. It gives me time to read the papers, and get a feel for what the day is going to be like. At noon, don't go looking for me anywhere else... This is where I'll be. I don't move from here. That's the way it is, six days a week. On Sunday, I go to church... though it's true there seems to be less of us than there used to be..."
