About the Next Great Art Song
La Scena Musicale is searching for the Next Great Art Song*! The
Canadian Art Song Composition Contest aims to promote classical music by connecting
the music of today to the general public. Composers are invited to submit their
works, to be voted on by the public.
In the year leading up to the winner, LSM will
feature the 10 Greatest Art Songs of all time, one or two per issue starting in
September 2015, with the greatest art song revealed in fall 2016. The
results of the top 10 will be compiled from the contributions of hundreds of
specialists including musicologists, music writers, critics, singers,
accompanists, vocal coaches and prominent musicians in a worldwide survey. These 10 art
songs will be performed in Fall 2016 in a gala concert.
Also on the program will be the art songs of our
competition's 10 finalists sung by some of Canada's top singers. The winning song(s), according to the audience's decision,
will be programmed in future recitals with partnering organizations, and may
also be published.
